If your child has suffered from earaches in the past, you know just how much pain is involved. Try these tips to help prevent earaches from starting in the first place.
-
Ensure your child isn’t around second-hand smoke
-
Ensure your child is eating and drinking in an upright position — so that fluid doesn’t enter their ears and Eustachian tubes
-
Limit the amount of time your child spends with other children who have colds
-
Avoid inserting cotton-tipped swabs, lamb’s wool or earplugs into your child’s ears since they may cause irritation
-
Keep your child’s ears dry — especially if they’ve been in water
-
Keep your child out of dusty areas or areas with airborne debris — this may cause an overproduction of earwax
-
Speak to your child’s doctor if your child suffers from frequent earaches associated with a cold
