There are several myths that exist about ear infections and how to avoid them. For example, there is no basis to the commonly held belief that wearing a hat will prevent ear infections. Cold temperatures and wind in the ears will also not cause a middle ear infection.
Ear infections are actually not contagious. However, the colds that often cause them are contagious.
Flying with an ear infection or a cold is generally not recommended. If your doctor feels that your child's infection is under control or almost gone, you may be able to let your child fly.
