Cough, Cold & Flu in Infants 0-24 Months

FAQs

Can my child get a cold if they are exposed to cold or wet weather?

No. Your child can only get a cold if they are exposed to a virus from someone who is infected.

How do I know if my child has a cold or the flu?

Generally, if the symptoms appear very suddenly and start with a high fever, it is probably the flu. Your child may also be extremely tired and have moderate to severe body aches and pains. If your child has a cold, on the other hand, he or she will usually complain first of a dry and scratchy throat.

How can I prevent my child from getting sick?

Encourage them to wash their hands frequently and avoid touching their eyes or nose. Keep your child away from infected people, especially from sick children in school or daycare. A balanced diet is also important for keeping children healthy.

Should I have my child get the flu shot?

Consult with your doctor if you’re thinking of vaccinating your child against the flu. Generally, any healthy child over six months old can get the flu shot.
