Multiple Medications, Multiple Risks
Make sure to check the labels of all medications you are taking. Many medications contain the same active ingredient and you want to avoid doubling up on the dose. For example, in addition to its other medicinal ingredients BENYLIN® Cold & Sinus contains acetaminophen which is also the active ingredient in TYLENOL® Extra Strength. Both products each contain 500 mg of acetaminophen:
According to Health Canada’s labeling guidelines the maximum single dose for acetaminophen is 1 g (1000 mg); the maximum daily dose is 4g (4000 mg). You should never exceed the maximum single or maximum daily dose of acetaminophen unless your doctor has advised differently. Overdose may result in severe or possibly fatal liver damage.
